know

The holidays are over, but your live Christmas tree still has a purpose. The City of Dallas is turning discarded evergreens into useful mulch-here’s how to take part.

How It Works

Drop off your bare tree at any city recycling site before January 24. Remove every ornament, tinsel strand, and stand. Keep the tree unwrapped; plastic bags jam the chipping equipment.

Staff will grind the trees into mulch for landfill roads and drainage work.

Where to Go

One tree per household:

  • Northwest Transfer Station – 9500 Harry Hines Blvd.
  • Northeast Transfer Station – 7677 Fair Oaks Ave.
  • Southwest Transfer Station – 4610 S. Westmoreland Rd.

Unlimited trees welcome:

  • McCommas Bluff Landfill – 5100 Youngblood Rd.

Artificial Trees

Fake evergreens can’t be recycled. Put them out with bulk trash or haul them to any landfill or transfer station.

Key Takeaways

  • Free recycling ends January 24
  • Strip all decorations and skip the bag
  • One tree limit at transfer stations
  • Artificial trees go to landfill, not the chipper

Your post-holiday cleanup just got greener-drop off that tree and give it a second life as city mulch.
