How the Shooting Unfolded
Cedar Hill police raced to the 1400 block of N. Highway 67 after a 911 caller reported his vehicle had been shot at and provided a description of the suspect’s car.
Officers located that vehicle on the shoulder and initiated what they termed a high-risk stop.
During the stop a woman stepped out of the passenger side. The male driver then fired at her, killing her in front of the officers.
Police said the driver exited the car armed with a gun. Two Cedar Hill officers discharged their weapons, striking the man.
Medical Response and Outcome
Officers provided emergency aid to both the woman and the shooter until paramedics arrived.

Investigation Protocol
The Texas Rangers have taken the lead, a standard practice when officers use deadly force. The Cedar Hill officers involved have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy.
Regional Attorney Lance Wyatt responded to assist the officers, according to the Texas Municipal Police Association.
In a statement, TMPA said that during the stop “a homicide occurred in front of the officers when the driver shot the female passenger.” The association added it is ensuring the officers’ “rights, due process, and legal protections are fully upheld.”
