John Marino broke a 1-1 tie early in the third period and the Utah Mammoth held on to defeat the Dallas Stars 2-1 in Salt Lake City on Thursday night.
Marino’s Two-Point Night
Marino’s goal came just two minutes after Dallas had pulled even on a power-play tally from Mikko Rantanen. The defenseman rifled a long-range shot past Jake Oettinger for his second game-winning goal of the season.
Marino also set up Nick Schmaltz’s 17th goal of the season late in the second period. Schmaltz tipped in Marino’s feed with only seven seconds remaining in the middle frame, marking the fourth-latest goal in any regulation period in Utah’s brief franchise history.

Key Saves and Disallowed Goals
Karel Vejmelka stopped 26 shots to earn the win, improving Utah’s record to 16-1-1 when leading after two periods.
The Mammoth appeared to double their lead just 38 seconds into the third period, but Lawson Crouse’s goal was overturned for high-sticking.
Stars’ Struggles Continue
Dallas has now dropped nine of its last 11 contests. Oettinger finished with 25 saves in the loss.
