AT&T Settles $177M Data Breach Claims, Customers Can Claim Up to $7,500

AT&T customers can now file claims for up to $7,500 after a $177 million settlement over two 2024 data breaches.

Settlement Overview

AT&T agreed to a $177 million settlement following two separate data breaches that exposed sensitive information from 2019 and earlier. The first breach, reported on March 30, 2024, saw the release of addresses, Social Security numbers, birthdates, passcodes, billing numbers and phone numbers on the dark web. The second breach involved call and text records for nearly all AT&T customers from May through October 2022, plus a subset from Jan. 2, 2023, after AT&T discovered data had been illegally downloaded from its workspace on a third‑party cloud platform.

AT&T has denied wrongdoing but chose to settle earlier this year. In a statement, the company said, “We have agreed to this settlement to avoid the expense and uncertainty of protracted litigation,” adding that it remains “committed to protecting our customers’ data and ensuring their continued trust in us.”
