Martha Stewart, 84, revealed that Knicks star Jalen Brunson accidentally broke her toe during a game against the Indiana Pacers while she sat courtside in sandals.
The Incident
During the May 21 matchup, where Ben Stiller and Timothée Chalamet were also in attendance, Brunson caused a “Brunson fracture” when he fell into Stewart’s lap. “He stepped on my big toe. It was like in the last five minutes of the game with the Pacers,” Stewart said.
Stewart’s Reaction

On the Dec. 17 episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Stewart warned, “Never, ever wear open‑toed shoes to a good like that when you’re sitting on the floor.” She explained the pain that followed, “Then they went into overtime, which made it even more painful because I couldn’t get up and leave to go take care of my toe.” She added, “I knew it was broken.”
When asked about the moment, she described the player’s cold arm, “He came crashing down, sits on my lap and I grabbed his arm,” Stewart explained. “His arm was like icy cold. I thought, ‘He’s a basketball player. He should be sweaty.’ He wasn’t sweaty at all. He was cool as a cucumber.”
Stewart playfully noted, “He did not know he broke my foot, but he broke my foot.” She didn’t let the incident slide; “I told his parents,” she admitted. “I met his parents. They were laughing. They thought it was so funny.”
Compensation
When asked how Brunson compensated her, Stewart teased, “All I got out of it was a signed basketball for my grandchild.”
Support for the Knicks
Despite the loss to the Pacers, Stewart remains a fan of the New York‑based team. Earlier in the year she took her grandson Truman to a game. Dressed in a neon orange sweater, she joked, “If you look hard enough, you see me — orange sweater — and soon‑to‑be 12‑year‑old Truman out for the night at Madison Square Garden.”
Other Projects
Martha Stewart and José Andrés recently discuss their new NBC competition series “Yes, Chef!” where they judge chefs with personal issues in a contest for $250,000. They also talk about their new books: Stewart’s “Gardening Handbook” and Andrés’s “Change the Recipe.”
