Nick Reiner, son of famed actor Rob Reiner, was arrested on suspicion of murder after a disruptive holiday party, with his parents found dead in their Los Angeles home.
Arrest and Party Incident
He was disruptive at the holiday gathering hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, making other guests uncomfortable, according to two people familiar with the situation. The parents were upset and embarrassed by his behavior and expressed worries about his health.
At one point, Reiner interrupted a conversation with comedian Bill Hader. When Hader told him the conversation was private, Reiner stood still and stared before “storming off.”
Representatives for O’Brien and Hader did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Family Background and Past Struggles
Nick Reiner, 32, had lived on and off at the family’s Brentwood home. He has been vocal about his experiences with drug addiction and rehab, which began when he was 15.
In 2015, Rob and Nick teamed for the film “Being Charlie.” The drama, inspired by Nick’s experiences, follows an addicted son of a would‑be governor. Rob Reiner said, “What I didn’t understand was the depth of what he was going through,” in a May 4, 2016 appearance on NBC’s “TODAY” show. He added, “and the process of making this film not only forced me to see what he was experiencing, but it forced him to see what I went through and what his mother went through, and hopefully the film was a reflection of that.”
Current Investigation
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the deaths and are holding Nick Reiner without bail. Police saw him smoking in the Exposition Park area, law enforcement sources said. Eric Leonard reports for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Monoday, Dec. 15, 2025.
